Hello, I'm Dr. Sharon Clayman, PsyD.
I specialize in EMDR (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) Therapy and EMDR intensives.
I completed my undergraduate education at the University of Vermont with a double major in Psychology and French. My doctoral work was with The Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology in Southeastern VA. I earned my Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.), which I knew I wanted to earn because of the rigorousness and the clinical focus of the program. I completed my internship at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in the counseling center and then went on to gain experience with two Postdoctoral Programs; one at The Obsessive Compulsive Disorders Institute at Mclean Hospital in Boston and the other at Trinity College in Hartford, CT.
Look Beyond "The Story" With EMDR Therapy
Overcoming trauma involves coming to terms with every aspect of your identity, and reshaping the internal narratives that become your life story. EMDR Therapy is an opportunity to confront and accept the past, process your emotions, and move forward in peace.
The type of therapy that I offer differs from traditional talk therapy. I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an experiential process-oriented therapy that integrates all levels of experience; cognition, emotion, and a body/somatic. EMDR therapy has been extensively researched and is widely recognized as a highly effective evidenced-based treatment for PTSD and other trauma and stress related disorders.
Work Through Your Trauma With EMDR Intensives
EMDR Intensives are effective for trauma recovery. Whether you are carrying symptoms of distress in your mind, body, or spirit, an EMDR Intensive can help you shift your perspective and take back your sense of personal power.
The intensive therapy I provide is a completely customizable treatment plan that allows people to do more therapy in shorter amount of time, overall reducing time in treatment and getting people to their goals faster. We will meet for an initial session to determine your needs and fit for this kind of therapy. If the fit is right, we will determine how many hours in a week will be optimal for you according to your treatment goals. This can range from a half day of therapy to several days of therapy in one week.
Are you looking for additional support and guidance with your EMDR cases?
EMDR is awesome and complex and we can all use some more support and guidance when working with the standard protocol to more complex cases that require more interventions, interweaves and different case conceptualization.
I am passionate about EMDR and the power and opportunities it offers for healing and transformation, like no other therapeutic approach. I am certified in EMDR, I receive ongoing EMDR consultation myself, and I continue to attend advanced EMDR trainings so I can stay active and involved in learning the latest and greatest. Please reach out to me if you are interested in having a partner in your learning process and with the cases that are bringing up questions for you. I’d love to be your partner on this journey.
I'm here to help you lead a more fulfilling life, embrace the present, and develop a stronger sense of compassion for yourself.
